In the 5th year of our Make A Difference Days (MADD), we wanted to reflect on our campaign to do what we say we’re going to do:
- Increase our positive impact on biodiversity and the natural world
- Reduce our negative impact on the planet
- Utilise our platform to help others help the planet
MADD encompasses all of this and so much more. Where else would you find the likes of a management consultancy, a law firm, a sustainable clothing brand, a shared office space and a personal training gym coming together to go for a litter pick and raise money for planting trees?
Our unique charity event in aid of Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) is one day of action with real lasting impact on our planet.
As part of this year’s Make A Difference Day, communities and companies across the UK, Spain, and the USA came together with one shared mission: to clean up our environment and raise funds to plant 1,000 trees across the UK. And the results have been nothing short of inspiring.
On Saturday 10th May, volunteers of all ages took to their local parks, beaches, and streets armed with gloves, bin bags, and determination. Together, they cleared:
- 40 bags of litter — including 22 from Holes Bay, Poole, down the road from Illuminet’s HQ.
- Over 10,000 pieces of rubbish rescued from nature
- £3,790 raised (and counting!) toward our £10,000 goal
What did the volunteers think?
Well, with the chance to see how litter is really piling up in our environment, lots said it was hard to comprehend how this still happens but now are motivated to get out and do more. We’ve even had parents tell us about how little ones (as young as 3!) are now pointing out litter and aware that this isn’t okay! This ripple effect of awareness is a crucial reason as to why we do it.
How does this help our charity partner YDMT?
Richard Hore, Development Officer at YDMT made it all the way down south for the trip, it was great to hear how our fundraising will help them continue their mission in bringing native woodlands back to the Dales – the least wooded national park in the UK.
“Delivering social impact forms a key part of a lot of our corporate partnerships. It’s all about bringing people together in support of the environment but also bringing people together to create that social cohesion and a sense of doing something good for the environment.”
Our MADD is all in support of their mission, both in donations and ethos. Connection between people and nature is essential to the momentum of looking after our planet.
