Earth Day 2025: Empowering Action for a Greener Future
Earth Day 2025 is here, with a powerful message; “Now, more than ever, we must step up our efforts to combat climate change, protect biodiversity, and preserve our ecosystems.”
This year’s focus is renewable energy, with the theme being “Our Power, Our Planet” but the running message as always is to empower people to take action, drive change and make an impact to help our planet.
Illuminet are proud to support this cause with our green initiatives that drive our policy to reduce our harmful impact, maximise our positive impact, and use our platform to highlight important environmental issues.
In just over 2 weeks, we will be walking from our Poole office to our local bay – Holes Bay – to challenge ourselves in picking up 10,000 pieces of litter in 1 hour. This is our fifth year running the event, and we are excited to involve the local community, and take responsibility for our local landscape, to help preserve the important ecosystems.
Earth Day Org report that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish (by weight). Litter picking is an important part of ending plastic pollution – not only should we aim to reduce the plastic we consume but help reduce the impact where damage has already been done.
Alongside our clean up, we are hoping to raise enough funds to plant 1,000 UK native trees with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. Our objective is two-fold, remove the litter to help nature, and plant trees to help prevent further nature loss, not to mention being a crucial step for the UK to reach its net zero goals. We need to raise £10,000 to achieve this, so please consider supporting the cause by donating here.
It’s been a busy first quarter with lots of eco-missions taking place at Illuminet, from collecting blister packs for recycling, to reducing our food miles, and making bug hotels in our gardens.
