Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary were heading towards a financial cliff edge with much of its network related infrastructure approaching end of life and the need for massive investment, investment they wanted to avoid!
The approach for Illuminet was a transformation contract with the concept of wrapping most of the network related services into a single, large-scale contract whereby the vendor would bake in the investment and remove all technical debt and reduce the annual cost base. Illuminet undertook a discovery project to get a firm grip of the facts and then undertook the review and contract negotiations to deliver a transformative solution to deliver the benefits the Forces needed.
This delivered a 27% reduction in total cost of ownership (audited savings of £21.8m over 5 years) made up of a reduction of mobile voice and data spend, Capex avoidance on the WAN/LAN refresh and significant Opex avoidance on the contact centre voice and WAN.
