The Challenge
The digital, technology and strategy function (DST) within ONS had a very inefficient resource management system based on manually updated spreadsheets. As a result ONS were unable to plan effective delivery or manage demand, recruitment and budgets.
The Solution
ONS engaged Illuminet to transform the resource management service via our Now to Wow Spin Cycle methodology.
Our Now to Wow methodology focuses on the transformation of the product or service and creates energy, enthusiasm, and ownership along the journey, treating digital transformation as iterative and cyclic rather than a one-shot exercise.
Following our unique methodology Illuminet worked with DST and generated over 80 improvement ideas leading to a detailed roadmap of actions to deliver a transformed service.
The Impact
As a result of following the Illuminet roadmap ONS were able to achieve the following:
– A single view of truth for resource allocation.
– A robust process to keep that information up-to-date
– A flexible, user-friendly dashboard for resource data
– Service development roadmap to ensure continuous improvement
They now have visibility in one place, of all their staff, vacancies and how they link to their milestones, priorities and skills. Importantly leadership is now are now able to communicate effectively to business areas and this has had a positive direct impact on the ability to deliver efficiently.
