Welcome to the family!

Over the last few weeks we have made a number of important appointments as part of our ‘Levelling up for Q2’ plans. We are excited to be welcoming five fantastic people to the Illuminet family and we thought it would be nice for you to get to know them a little…

Steve Wynne – Head of Recruitment

I started my recruitment career working for Sthree. Building from scratch a contract recruitment desk in Project Management/ Business Analysts across the North East & North West of England covering Public Sector – Local Government & NHS. 

That’s where is all started for me and I haven’t looked back. Progressing my career over the years leading teams of contract recruiters in IT and Engineering agency side. I spent a while contracting myself as an Internal Recruitment Manager on the other side of the fence, so I understand both sides. My most recent position finished three years of being a Director of an Irish Recruitment Agency coveting IT & IT Sales. 

Illuminet for me is such an exciting project to be part of. The growth the company has delivered over the past few years is a credit to all involved and something to be super proud of. The opportunity to lead the recruitment division and build a sustainable business development function was just too good to turn down.

I was All Ireland Irish Dancing champion, Slip and Reel Jig at The mansion house in Ireland as a young boy. 

Ben Field – Recruitment Business Developer

I have been in recruitment for around 3 and a half years now starting out as a Resourcer and moving up the ladder to a full consultant. I have worked within IT Recruitment for the last 3 years both sales and technical in mostly Dublin and Europe and dealing with different languages and cultures throughout the time at my previous employer.

I got into recruitment due to wanting to start out a new professional career, due to having a long career in motorcycle racing (British championship level) and felt it was time to hang up the leathers and build a successful career. I consider myself as a people person and hope that I can continue to grow with Illuminet. I am really excited about the business and what they represent from their consulting and also their product line looks very interesting too. Happy to be a part of the team!

An interesting fact about Ben…

I have hit a tyre wall at approximately 90mph and apart from seeing double, still here today albeit a little bit of a looser screw than before!

Alison Munn – Senior Project Manager

I go by the name of Ali, although I use Alison Munn for business and my married name is Emmerson. I live in Deal, Kent with my husband Tony, Dog Ruby and we were recently joined by my 92-year-old mother. 

Way back in 1990, I set up 2 start-up companies in the motor industry. This started me out on the great adventure of technology and process. In 1998 I moved to Blue Arrow Recruitment to implement & manage various IT departments; including Y2K compliance (if you are under 30 you may need to look this up). Then in 2003 I went to Reuters and spent 10 years implementing and managing 9 more IT departments and processes across 92 countries. This is where I met Dave Smith. During the last 7 years I have been running my own consulting company which has given me the wonderful opportunity to work with Illuminet on projects for Guildford Council, LME, Barclays and NTTD.

I am passionate about Corporate and Social Responsibility, especially in the IT sector and I have been on a number of projects and committees looking to reduce waste by encouraging recycling, minimum packaging, sustainable sourcing and environmental electronic waste disposal. Illuminet’s environmental approach is therefore a big pull for me, as is John O’s enthusiasm and I am very excited to be joining the team on a full-time basis and helping Illuminet grow!

An interesting fact about Alison…

I have built 3 houses in Bangalore to keep families safe from abuse, whilst off-setting my business carbon footprint.

Tina Roberts – Senior Project Manager

A dedicated lead with vast amount of experience in global transformation programmes as well as years of experience leading and implementing IT and Service Teams across multiple company types including financial services with a ‘no nonsense’ approach to delivery. I am originally from Ireland and have lived in various locations such as Canada, Texas and California before coming to the UK in 2005 where I lived on the Isle of Wight, then Bournemouth, then London and more recently Cheshire.  Having consulted for Illuminet Solutions on a number of deliveries, I am looking forward to joining on a permanent basis and am excited to add value to the team.  The ethos, work ethic and dedication to charity is what drew me to illuminet and cements my commitment to the illuminet family. I am passionate about charity and look forward to getting more involved.  

An interesting fact about Tina…

I did my first driving license test in Texas, USA. What’s unusual about this was I did the entire test with the handbrake on and still managed to pass!

Maria Nunez – Consulting Director

My career started in the Financial Services Industry in Bournemouth at Chase Manhattan Bank in 1999 (covering the exciting Y2K (I feel that some of our super talented young team members need to Google this!). I started supporting Network Service Management team, responsible for the service from our Eastern Europe sub-custodians’ network in the asset’s custody business. Since then, I held various positions making it from Senior Graduate Analyst to Senior Vice President and being part of the huge merger between Chase & JPMorgan in 2001. I specialised on delivering change for the firm, front to back, across multiple LOBs and Functions, focused on both regulatory and business revenue growth/cost efficiency transformation programs. I held regional and global roles based in the UK and LatAm, which has given me an immense love for the world and a super-rich network.

At the end of 2018, having successfully led the delivered IFRS 9 across JPM Risk and Finance organisations, I decided to take a leap of faith and move into the consulting world in London to help clients with all the great experience I had gained at JPM across change, and spent almost 2 years at EY FS Advisory. It has been an eye opener and enriching experience, getting to know well other key players in the FS industry field, as well as the whole consulting world, where I learnt the end to end consulting cycle from go-to-market innovation and readiness, opportunity creation, pitching/orals, delivering and billing!

I am super excited about joining Illuminet. As with any lateral move there are always huge opportunities, and this is what makes it challenging and super interesting to be part of. Transitioning into a full time ‘Sales/Market Facing Role’ is a huge responsibility and honour. I believe there is a great space in the market to further penetrate Illuminet’s fantastic products and solutions offerings and enhance our brand and growth in the next few years. I certainly hope to add much value doing so. After just 24hrs at the company, I would like to say that am so impressed with the calibre of human capital, professionally and personally. So, I want to thank you all sincerely for making me feel so welcome!

An interesting fact about Maria…

I train 6 days a week, either swimming, cycling or running. Lately, more the latter as I am getting ready for my first marathon ever…. London! During the last 5 years I did various triathlon and duathlons, also representing Great Britain duathlon team internationally in my Age Group (no elite racing), and aiming to do so in September again, as I qualified last year.

Lastly, but the most important aspect of my life, I am a super blessed and proud Mum to Anita Zoe, who is flying the nest soon to conquer the Art Fashion world at UAL. She keeps me honest.

Tree-ometer update: February

As part of our green partnership with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust we plant trees in the Dales for every product and service we sell. You can read all about the specific number of trees we plant for each product and service here!

Last month our consultants worked a total of 176 weeks across various projects, meaning we have funded the planting of 176 new trees in February! This takes our tree-ometer up to a total of 1,696, growing a few more leaves in the process.

We are well on the way to hitting our milestone of 3,000 trees, achieving over half in the last 7 months! Stay tuned for our March tree-ometer update…

The Litter Sprint: Everything you need to know

We are very excited to be hosting our first annual event at Illuminet, the Litter Sprint! 

You may or may not have seen some content being shared on social media with ways to sign up and show your support, so we have decided to make this post to answer some of the key questions about the event! 

What is the event? 


100 people 

100 pieces of litter each 

10,000 pieces of litter 

while raising £10,000 to fund the planting of 1,000 trees.  

A lot of numbers, here is what we mean… 

For 1 hour between 10-11am on the 5th April the Litter Sprint will be held across two locations, Basingstoke and Poole. Across both locations we aim to have 100 people joining us on the day. Each of those 100 people will be challenged to collect 100 pieces of litter each within the hour, anything from plastic bags to cigarette butts, it all counts towards a cleaner and greener ecosystem! Totalling 10,000 pieces of Litter in just 1 hour will go a long way to give the wildlife the best chance for a healthy start to life in the beginning of Spring.

The goal is to plant 1,000 trees as a result of the fundraising from the Litter Sprint. Our Partners Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust will plant each tree costing as little as £7, so even the smallest donations do help!  

We set the challenge of everyone to raise £70 each which is enough to fund the planting of 10 trees, even if you can’t attend the day sponsor us as our friends!  

What and who is the event fundraising for? 

The Litter Sprint is raising money for our partners Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. Tree planting is perhaps what the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust is most well-known for. Since they first started out in 1996 YDMT has helped to plant around 1.5 million broadleaf trees, creating native woodlands of all shapes and sizes throughout the Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale. It is something that’s very close to our hearts here at Illuminet, as you may have seen in our recent news post our colleagues work closely with YDMT travelling to Yorkshire to be a part of the planting. 

But why trees you may ask… 

  • Trees absorb carbon and help to combat climate change 
  •  They create new habitats for wildlife and support biodiversity 
  •  They create natural spaces where people can relax and enjoy themselves 
  •  Trees protect the landscape against flooding and erosion and improve water quality 
  •  Trees restore part of our natural landscape that’s been lost due to deforestation.
  • The UK has only 13% woodland cover, compared with an EU average of 37% – in the Yorkshire Dales that figure falls to just 4.8%. 

Why should I get involved? 

Helping the environment has never been so important. We are seeing the impact of climate change and pollution on a daily basis in our news these days. It is vital that we all help and act to improve the planet we live on. It can be confusing on how we as individuals can help and it can seem overwhelming. We mustn’t let these feelings prevent us from taking action. 

There are some no brainers in helping the environment that pretty much everyone is agreed on – planting more trees and picking up litter from our countryside and seaside. What we love about these actions are that they are within our ability to do and have an immediate impact.  

We generate over 100 million tonnes of waste every year – a majority of which ends up on the streets or in our oceans and lasts a very lengthy amount of time.

Our efforts will help to remove 10,000 pieces of litter and recycling that may never decompose from the public space around us! Taking us one step closer to reducing that 100 million tonne figure!

Tree planting day in the Yorkshire Dales

Earlier in February Myself, Chloe Jones (Marketing Coordinator) Sonja Morgan (Client Delivery Manager) and Phil Morgan (Client Delivery Director) made the epic journey up to Yorkshire to meet with Sarah and Michael from our partners Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) for a day of planting trees!

The planting took place at Summerstone Estate in Nidderdale, which is within the same valley as the stunning Scar House reservoir that we stopped by at the end of the day. The field we planted in was named Dotty’s field, which gave it a nice personal touch. We had the pleasure of meeting Roy, the Summerstone Estate manager and Chris the senior forest manager for Tillhill forestry. Tillhill are supporting the planting on the estate and have worked with Roy and the landowner on many other sites they have planted trees on at Summerstone. It was interesting to learn how woodland creation is very much about working in partnership with others. Just like the partnership between YDMT and Illuminet, the support is essential to make it happen.

It was extremely inspiring to see the passion Roy and Chris have for the environment and what they do, and it was fascinating the learn the extent of the impact tree planting has on the world we live in. Oh, and we best not forget the fantastic looking cows we met along the way…

YDMT are supporting the planting of just over 1,000 trees at Summerstone estate this year. As a team of 5 and the expert help and tips from Sarah, Michael, Roy and Chris, we managed to plant somewhere between 40-50 trees of different kinds…not bad for beginners. All of the trees were native broadleaf, but on the day a mixture of hazel, holly and hawthorn went in the ground! We managed to get a good few hours of tree planting done before the heavy snow came in…and we lost most sensation and movement in our fingers.

It was a fantastic day. A huge thank you to Sarah and Michael for hosting us. The future of our partnership is exciting, and we look forward to planting many more trees together as we both continue to grow. Until next time!

Our Green Partnership: Q2 Report!

Every quarter Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust send us a personalised report of the contribution we have made to our partnership, and stories of all the fantastic work the people of the dales have been putting in over the last few months to support the growth of the environment!

Last quarter Illuminet donated £4,249 to the trust, supporting the planting of a total of 607 trees!

Tree planting season is now well under way with the final figures of trees to be planted now standing at 27,000, across 22 new woodlands in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas. We are extremely proud to be a part of this ongoing project.

Illuminet Products Facilitator Training

On the 11th of February we held our Facilitator Kick-Off event for the Products division here in Basingstoke. We invited our associates to become fully certified on delivering our four 90-day Spin Cycle Products to our clients by attending the Illuminet Facilitator Programme.  

The Kick-Off event introduced our attendees to the Spin Cycle programmes they will be delivering, whilst giving them an overall insight into the fantastic story of our products. As you can see above, this story was represented beautifully by pen and paper (and a variety of coloured sharpies) allowing Greg (CEO) to show the start, journey and destination of each product. The event was a huge success, with plenty of interaction and questions and all attendees keen to sign up to our Facilitator Programme training days!  

Following the kick off event we held two Facilitator training days. The first in our Poole offices and the second in our Basingstoke office. The training was split over three days delivered by Greg Wood and Steve Farmer, with the facilitators engaging with one another over a variety of group activities and brainstorming sessions to strengthen group knowledge on delivering our Spin cycle products. We are excited to be welcoming and working with our newly certified facilitators here at Illuminet!

The Illuminet Tree-Ometer

You may or may not know that we partner with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust. We are extremely proud of the relationship we have formed with the team at YDMT and the impact this partnership has on the environment.

As part of our partnership we plant trees for every product and service we sell. You can read all about the specific number of trees we plant for each product and service here! We wanted to dedicate a space on our website where we can keep a running total of the number of trees that we have planted, and obviously we wanted to give it the creative Illuminet touch!

So we are introducing to you the Illuminet Tree-Ometer! We will be checking in monthly to provide you with an update on our work with YDMT. The more trees we plant as part of our partnership, the more our tree will flourish in size and colour!

Illuminet attended the Joint ICT ICT Away Day 2019

Firstly, it was an honour to be invited to attend this year’s ICT Away Day with Joint ICT. The event was hosted by Thames Valley Police at the Vodafone premises in Newbury. The hosts invited a fantastic selection of professionals from Blue Prism, IBM, Samsung, Vodafone, Microsoft, Cisco, Service Now and DEMS representing their companies.

Further to our participation, our CEO Greg Wood had the pleasure of being a guest speaker at the event. Greg delivered a presentation on the importance of change in an organisation, offering insight into how organisations can become more effective at delivering change and reducing the risk of poor change.

Furthermore, the Illuminet stand was hosted by our Business Operations Manager Maria Tallon and Product Director Kester Neal. Maria and Kester exchanged knowledge on our brilliant 90-day Spin Cycle consultancy toolkits and the benefit they can bring to businesses.

A Global Partnerships Built on Trust

Illuminet’s partnership with NTT DATA demonstrates how we can serve the industry better together.  Our partnership has gone from strength to strength, enabling success for NTT DATA, their clients and illuminet.

This week we are further deepening our relationship, meeting a number of NTT DATA senior executives in Texas to explore how we can work together across multiple industries, utilising our Consulting Knowledge Flex and Virtual Bench Services, our innovative Packaged Spin Cycle Products and Resourcing capabilities.  

We are looking forward to extending our valued partnership and continuing to support NTT DATA in delivering excellence to their clients.


Illuminet 10 Year Anniversary

Our party in Shoreditch marked the end of our ten year celebrations. It was lovely to see so many of our friends at our Poole and London celebrations and it reminded us what a journey our ten years has been! 

We started out in 2009 with four partners and £20 each to invest and we worked from a shed! We now employ over 100 people across 8 countries have three offices in Poole, Birmingham and Basingstoke and hope to achieve our £20m revenue run rate target this year.  When we look back, we have met so many great people and have had the privilege of working on so many interesting and diverse projects – target operating model designs for major banks, interim management for major middle-eastern banks, service improvement for UK police forces, service transitions in China, Russia, Europe, South America and Singapore, project management in a Dutch dairy company and data centre reviews in Brussels to name a few. We have built up a network of people we know and love to work with, now numbering over 1200 people globally, have launched four unique products and have recently agreed a partnership with CSI in the UK and Virtech in Australia. When we look forward we are setting our sights high with expectations to continue our growth and launch more exciting products. We will continue to cherish our clients and hope to continue to win more clients. Exciting times ahead!
